Restructuring and supporting growth companies
Many companies are ‘ticking over’ while performing way below their potential in terms of growth and value. Others grow so fast that the business is at risk of getting out of control. Several events may trigger a step change to a next stage of development, or a strategic restructuring, needing executive guidance:
The company has survived the stabilisation stage of a turnaround initiative – it now has to find strategic direction and rebuild competitive success;
An owner-managed business may need a transition to professional management involving a greater measure of delegation;
The business may be taking strain because fast growth is not being matched with financial and general management controls;
A management buy-out or buy-in may give a tired business a new lease of life;
A new owner / investor may introduce a new, expanded vision for the business through a merger, acquisition or capital injection;
The company may identify new growth markets;
Empowerment initiatives may introduce new stakeholders.
Making the step changes associated with these transition points in the life-cycle of a business holds less risk if it is done with the benefit of experienced guidance, coaching and mentoring, especially if it requires organisational change implementation at a corporate or divisional level. At times these situations may also call for interim executive leadership until the right internal team can take charge
